How Does PALS Deliver Air Beneath a Moving Ship?

The most interesting part of an air lubrication system is also the hardest to see: what happens beneath the hull while the vessel is underway.

Armada Technologies’ PALS (Passive Air Lubrication System) uses a ship’s forward motion to draw in ambient air and water. The system mixes them and delivers the flow through an arrangement of units beneath the hull, where the air helps reduce friction between the hull and surrounding water. It does this without an air compressor.

Our 45-second animation makes that underwater process visible. Follow the route from the inlets through the system, then watch how air is distributed along the hull as the ship moves forward.

Watch the animation below to see PALS in action.
